It was only a matter of time. I was absolutely sure my Dirty Doc story would come round again, so to speak. Back in July I tried to get a couple of red tops to run with a story on a seedy Edinburgh GP who was using his medical practice to take "interesting" photographs of himself which he then posted on to internet swinger sites.
My first port of call had been the Daily Record and Edinburgh based hack Jack Mathieson was given the task of running the pervy practioner to ground. Unfortunately it was the same time as Max Mosley was taking the News of the Screws to task over invasion of privacy claims and the Record and subsequently two other titles bottled out of it for fear that, er, exposing a doctor who was misusing NHS premises was somehow not in the public interest. Strange, but there you go.
Anway, Jacko is nothing if not dogged and his patience and determination paid off as you can see with today's front page and page 9 Daily Record expose on Dr Ewan Crawford of Murrayfield Medical Centre.
Dr Crawford or "BigCchris" as he liked to call himself on sex websites likes to get things out in the open so congratulations to Jack for obliging with this full frontal assault which will surely end Crawford's career.
The Record's Edinburgh team are out on the lash tonight and I hope Jack has a Christmas drink on me.

No doubt as you are of the one sided journalism breed,and you moderate your own comments you will not publish this. Just as the Brave Detective who made the complaint to the GMC decided to remain Anonymous. But There are a few things to your story that seem a little fishy !!
Are Doctor's surgeries not privately owned by the partners of the practice and therefor really not actually NHS property? Is it of public interest to cause a GP to be sacked when It is already bad enough getting appointments to see a GP ? Perhaps someone should do a poll as to who actually gives a monkey what Doctors do when not on duty! I would imagine most people don't care what goes on between consenting adults !
But the really sad thing about this is that This chap was not only a GP but did a a huge amount of work for the NHS in Lothian and the extent of his departure will be felt far and wide , so how is that in the public's interest ?
Had he been a policeman beating his wife or something , now that's in the public interest.

To Anonymous 23 Dec: It's ok to be Anonymous. If fact the tip off which started this all off was from an anonymous source who was disgusted at what they had discovered.
But you don't really get the point do you? It doesn't matter a fig who owns Dr Crawford's practice. The Dirty Doc seems to think it is ok to take obscene photographs of himself in his place of work and post them on the internet. On other websites he uses his medical background in a lewd attempt to obtain introductions to women. If your wife, partner or mother was a patient at this practice would she feel comfortable seeking advice on any range of potentially embarrassing and sensitive conditions?
Re your point on getting GP appointments. Following that logic, it's just a pity Dr Harold Shipman topped himself or perhaps we could still have him on the NHS roll.
You live in a very strange world if you think this is not in the public interest. For the record, I am very proud of my work, I sleep soundly at night and absolutely love turning over creeps like Crawford. And finally. I pay little or no attention to people who think the repeated use of a dog's cock (that's ! to you)in their puctuation makes their comments any more relevant.

I live in Murrayfield and was a patient of Dr Crawford for the last 7 years. Without going into details, he helped me a great deal, and was always caring and sympathetic with me - I suffer chronic pain and he actually went further than any other doctors have done to help me. I have friends and neighbours who also speak highly of his work over many years. Now, I dont condone what he has done but the man is not a monster. The truth is we all make mistakes, and doctors are human too. So please don't gloat. I think regret is a more appropriate tone here, rather than triumph.
I find it quite incredible that this information on "Big Chris " as he likes to be referred to would NOT be in the publics interest. I'm sorry but doctors chose a profession that puts them into a very close and intimate relationship with their patients and I would not be interested in anyway for myself or my wife/children being examined by a man that gets his kicks from swinging and posting nude pictures of himself on the internet whether this be on his own time or not. Everyone is entitled to their private life, when that private life is having a relationship with a patient or joining sleazy swinging clubs posting dirty pictures of themselves for the everyone to see, then it becomes very relevant for people to know exactly what kind of person is examining them. some people enjoy snooker, some enjoy watching football. In big Chris's case he just happens to like his body so much that thinks the whole world should see it on the internet. Well done to Stephen for finding this pervert out.

I ask myself that question EVERY day .Dr Crawford is not a friend of mine. I only came across the story through Mr Rafferty's Blog(The Daily record is only good for one thing and its not news) I Was a regular reader of this blog for quite some time, but after this quite deliberate character assassination of this poor chap Crawford, my opinion of Rafferty has changed.
You are of course entitled to your own opinion ,so I will refrain from saying your comments sound a little prudish .
But I will say that what goes on between two consenting adults, no matter what their occupation really has nothing to do with anyone else and should have no bearing on their ability to do their job. Sex between two consenting adults is perfectly natural , and as far as I know still legal in this country ,EVEN for employees of the NHS. And fair enough a GP having a relationship with a patient is not allowed but , affairs of the heart are often complicated and sometimes people make mistakes , but that's ALL the man is guilty off.

On one hand you're absolutely right, everybody is entitled to a private life. Yeah, just like scout leader Thomas Hamilton was a member of a bona fide shooting club.
So where do we draw the line in these "individual liberty versus public protection/public interest" cases?
The truth is you have to look for wider patterns and treat cases individually.
If Ewan Crawford simply used the web to trawl for sex, then good luck to him. It is unlikely any of his patients would have been any the wiser (and if they were, what of it?).
But he didn't stop there. He used his medical credentials to further his cause.
Let's not muddy the waters too much on the fact the building was "privately" owned. The work which paid for it is entirely public funded and the patients, who were sent their under the auspices of the NHS couldn't exactly shop around and choose to take their "custom" elsewhere.
When the pervy doc moved his antics from an entirely private arena (ie, his head and his bedroom) into a public one (ie the interweb and his GP practice), it became a breach of trust.
I don't want my McDonalds meal served to me in a kitchen where the staff take baths in the sink. Likewise, I don't want me or my family to be seen by a serial swinger Doctor in the room he associates with his sexual antics.
Of course, if I don't know about these things, then they can't really harm me.
Ignorance may be bliss, but when the perpetrators of such antics put them on the internet, they lose the dubious "protection" of ignorance.
Therefore, the big burger chain had no hesitation in sacking the thick American teenagers who abused their (albeit lowly) positions by posting YouTube videos of them bathing in the kitchen.
And I'll bet the people who posted here anonymously nodded sagely when those stupid rednecks were shown the door by the fast food chain.
So what does it say about their judgement when they leap to the defence of a middle-aged, well-educated, pillar of the community and figure of public trust when he does GP equivalent of taking a bath in the McDonald's kitchen sink?
Of course, even then the point is still moot. Some will argue the minimum wage McDonald's kids paid a heavy price for a stupid, but ultimately harmless prank.
And it could be argued that Dr Crawford shouldn't be hung out to dry for an ill-judged, but ultimately harmless lapse in judgement, where his private life crossed in a small way into his public life.
Could or should the papers have reported Crawford's antics in trawling for sex online? Probably not.
Should any patient, of any gender, have to be seen by a serial swinger GP in the very consulting room where he took an x-rated photograph for a www audience? Absolutely not.
Even up to his point any story in the papers might have been more prurient interst than public interest - but the boundaries were most definitely starting to blur.
The fact is, as Dr Biglove escalated his activities, so he increased the likelihood what he was doing would impact on his patients.
Risk isn't black and white. It is shades of grey.
Dr Nobfiddler didn't stop in the grey shades though, did he? Naw, it’s alleged he went further into the black, by sh*gging a patient.
I don't really care how delicately calibrated or otherwise your moral compass is - by that point he exceeded a universally accepted no-no.
To put it back into McDonalds terms he didn't just bathe in the sink - he spat in the shakes, p*ssed on the chips and w****d into the burger buns.
Deserving of our sympathy? Due a break? Exposure not in the public interest?

My wife and I have been on Dr Crawfords list for a number of years and found him to be a very caring professional person and doctors like him are very rare in the medical profession,we stand to loose him for being a normal hetrosexual single man in a world full of perverts,is this justice

As a former patient of the doctor in question can I first say that if indeed he has been having an improper relationship with a patient then that should be dealt with. The rest of the allegations do not matter a bit to me.
Congratulations (that is ironic by they way) on exposing and destroying the career of human being who did more good than harm.
The sheer, almost perverse, joy in your initial posting suggests that your own personality problems are possibly greater than his. I particularly note the references to "MY" story and I am sure you and your pal Jacko are terribly smug about the whole thing.
Notable that no other newspaper picked up the story in spite of the fact that by quoting the Record they would have effectively have been immune from legal action.
People of you ilk will justify their actions by whatever means they feel necessary and treat the public interest as something they alone can judge. You are like a small boy gleefully pulling the legs off a spider and will probably never evolve beyond that level.
