Herald's Political Supremo Fraser Courted By BBC

He's not a bad lad for a Hearts fan and here's hoping Mark McKenzie has a better a season in his new post than his beloved Jambos managed in the last SPL (8th in case you didn't know).
Mark is the new breakfast show presenter at 98.5Garrison FM which broadcasts to the military and families from Dreghorn Barracks in Edinburgh.
Mark's 20 year track record behind the mic includes presenter and production roles at Radio Forth, Scot FM, BBC Radio Scotland, Kingdom FM and until recently was Senior Producer at Edinburgh’s all speech radio station talk107 where he will continue to present the Super Saturday Sport show.
While over at The Herald it seems another high profile journo is preparing to jump ship. On the back of the departure of award winning feature writer Michael Tierney, I hear Scottish Political Editor Douglas Fraser is weighing up an offer from BBC Scotland to take up a newly created post as Business Editor - following a trend set by Peter MacMahon who switched from The Scotsman's political hot seat to become the paper's Business Editor.

Coghill Beat The Drum For Accuracy

We all make mistakes and if you're going to do it you may as well get it completely erse for elbow (although not sure my past editors would agree).
So step forward media, marketing and PR publication, The Drum, for a triple whammy in an email sent out to publicise their upcoming Scottish Media Forum event on Friday 20 June in Glasgow.
In the email they trumpet: "New speakers announced for The Scottish Media Forum. David Hutchinson, editor of ‘The Media in Scotland’ and Stuart Kirpatrick, editor of The Scotsman.com are the latest additions to this year’s speakers programme."Stewart Kirkpatrick, former editor of scotman.com (not Thescotsman.com which is owned by an American estate agent)tells me it is indeed him who will be speaking at the event.
Any former Edinburgh Evening News reporter who has been "Coghilled" (a verbal spit roasting by then assistant editor Hamish Coghill that made Sir Alex Ferguson's famous hairdryer treatment look like a limp wristed set of curling tongs)will testify that four errors in one sentence would surely mean a P45 landing on your North Bridge desk.
NOTE TO FORMER EVENING NEWS HACKS: How many times were you Coghilled and why?

Scotsman's Loss Is Telegraph's Gain

No doubt a big loss for The Scotsman is the news that Consumer Affairs specialist(and stand in news desk jockey) Alastair Jamieson is flying the coop after eight years.
Alastair was a star in the making the first time he landed in the Daily Record's Edinburgh office for a one week work experience gig when he was an Edinburgh University student. He took to the tabloid game like a duck to the proverbial and in fact we couldn't get rid of him after the agreed five day unpaid stint. He stayed for the whole summer and quickly developed from inexperienced wannabee hack to a reliable and trusted addition to the freelance roster, so much so the Record felt obliged to pay "the student" the normal shift rate. (I think he was also editing the university Student newspaper at the same time)
When it was time to leave yooni, Al had the option of a job at the Record but The Scotsman pitched in with an offer and he opted for Holyrood Road, much to our surprise. He's got some shifts lined up at the Daily Telegraph and colleagues past and present can join him for a drink at the World's End on Friday 20 June from 6pm.
Always a generous sort, Al said: "I should also say 'thank you' for all the help, encouragement and patience you've given me over the years which has meant a lot. Even though you've now buggered off to a more sensible career!"
